Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown follows the world-renowned chef, writer and broadcaster as he travels the across the globe to uncover little-known areas of the world and celebrate diverse cultures by exploring food and dining rituals. Known for his curiosity, candor, and acerbic wit, Bourdain takes viewers off the beaten path of tourist destinations – including some war-torn parts of the world – and meets with a variety of local citizens to offer a window into their lifestyles, and occasionally communes with an internationally lauded chef on his journeys.

This season, Bourdain travels to Ethiopia, Okinawa, Cuba, Charleston, Marseille, Borneo, Istanbul and San Francisco’s Bay Area to uncover the rich histories of these diverse cities and landscapes. In addition to exploring their cultural heritage, Bourdain indulges in the local cuisine, eating dishes prepared from recipes handed down through generations.

Kicking off in Ethiopia, a country whose name alone is fraught with images of famine, drought, civil war and disease, Bourdain sets out to explore its complex history and the extraordinary food and vibrant cuisine, as he finds himself in Parts Unknown.
